It appears the saying ‘like mother, like child’ rings true in the land of storage.
In celebration of Mother’s Day this year, we put a call out to our centre network to share the stories of some of the fantastic family members we employ. From the top end of Queensland, to the far west of Australia, meet four NS mums who are lucky enough to work alongside their children every day.
Jo & Caleb
Get to know this mother-son duo from Townsville, Queensland.
Jo started with National Storage in October 2018 and now manages our Fairfield centre. Her son Caleb joined the NS family in March 2019, and is now the Centre Manager of our Bohle centre, just west of the Townsville Airport. According to Jo, Caleb has never looked back!
“Caleb and I have always had a great relationship. Caleb is my youngest of four and follows our passion and love for motorbikes,” says Jo.
“It’s great to work near each other, but still have our own space. Working together has just been awesome. I often call Caleb to ask ‘tech-savvy 20 year old‘ related questions, and he calls me to ask ‘Mum-has-experience’ related questions. Because we are in the same role, we know each other’s systems, so it is wonderful!”
Jodie & Kimberlee
Meet the mother-daughter duo that light up our Gold Coast centres.
Jodie and Kimberlee joined the National Storage family as part of an acquisition portfolio two years ago. This transition encouraged daughter Kimberlee to leave the nest and take on her own centre, after working side by side with her mum for four years. This year, the pair clock up six years in business together, with Jodie now the Centre Manager of our Carrara centre and Kimberlee managing our Hope Island centre.
Whilst working together can be trying at times, Kimberlee shared that she and her mum “make a great team. We are constantly helping each other grow, pushing each other to be the best we can be and of course, always having a laugh! I wouldn’t change it for the world. Happy Mother’s Day, Mum – I’m super proud of you!”
Paulette & Dalton
Introducing Paulette, our fabulous Canning Vale Centre Manager, and Dalton a Centre Manager in Training at our Perth centre.
“I started working at National Storage in June 2019. Dalton was looking for something different and challenging, so I told him to apply for a job with National Storage,” Paulette explains.
“He was successful and it’s been great to be a part of the same team. When we work together, we enjoy how easy it is given how well we know each other.”
Sharon & Liam
Also hailing from beautiful WA, Sharon and Liam are two more NS stars who are more than just co-workers. Sharon is working as our experienced Centre Manager at Forrestdale, and Liam is working with us part-time at our Subiaco centre.
“I enjoy being called for advice when Liam is unsure of something, and it’s good to be able to share work stories,” Sharon says proudly.
Liam is studying at UWA and needed some part-time work, so was lucky enough to be hired by NS, she continues, explaining how important it is for her son to be able to supplement his studies with practical experience and fulfilling work.
