National Storage has been supporting the Wesley Mission Queensland’s Red Bag Appeal since 2018, and this year marks our fifth consecutive year of involvement. The Red Bag Appeal is now housed under the Supporting Partners category of our NS Cares community support initiative, as we wholeheartedly recognise this appeal as a worthy cause within our community.
The Red Bag Appeal calls upon members of the public in South East Queensland to pick up red bags from participating locations and return them filled with Christmas essentials and goodies (see shopping list HERE). Wesley Mission Queensland will then deliver over 1000 red bags at Christmas time, with the main goal of bringing hope and joy to those who need it most.

To celebrate a momentous five years of support, we spoke to our Queensland State Manager, Craig, about his involvement with the Red Bag Appeal over the past few years. Here’s what he had to say.
How long have you been involved with the Red Bag Appeal?
“This is my third year facilitating Red Bag Appeal collections through National Storage centres across South East Queensland.”
What do you enjoy most about taking part?
“It’s so rewarding to be in a position to give back to the local community and provide something meaningful at a time of the year when everyone should be happy.”
Do you see much alignment between the Red Bag Appeal and National Storage?
“Both the Red Bag Appeal and National Storage show a commitment to care for those who need a helping hand, and when they need it most. With the launch of National Storage’s community support initiative, NS Cares, earlier this year, there is even greater alignment to the Red Bag Appeal within National Storage.”
How can people get involved? Where can they pick up red bags?
“We have several National Storage centres with red bags ready for collection, and space set aside to house all the donations that come in. If you want to get involved, you can pick up red bags from the following centres:
The red bags need to be returned to a participating National Storage centre by Friday, 25th of November 2022, ready for collection the following Monday.”
Any advice for people that do not live in the South East Queensland region but still want to support the appeal?
“Of course! The team at Wesley Mission Queensland know that it isn’t possible for everyone to pick up red bags from the participating locations, so there is also the option to donate or fundraise – thereby sponsoring a ‘virtual’ red bag or two. Visit the website’s donation page and select an amount to donate that suits you.”
Do you have any final words to share about this year’s Red Bag Appeal?
“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in the Red Bag Appeal in 2022. Whether you are a National Storage centre staff member who is assisting in the collection of red bags, a member of the public who has donated your time and resources to fill up a red bag for someone in need, or a Wesley Mission Queensland volunteer who will deliver the red bags at Christmas time, your support and generosity of spirit has not gone unnoticed.”
