We are proud to sponsor this event each year and we look forward to taking part in the amazing awareness-generating and fundraising activities that are already happening as we speak.
Below we go into a bit more detail as to why this event and this cause are important to us, how the event unfolds, our involvement, and how you can support women with breast cancer.
What does International Women’s Day mean to National Storage?
In alignment with our values and the values of the Mater Foundation, International Women’s Day is a cause that we support at National Storage.
With a strong female presence in our workplace and an impressive record of supporting women in sport through our sponsorships, we are inherently supportive of all that International Women’s Day stands for, including this year’s theme of #BreakTheBias.
#BreakTheBias focuses on “creating a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.”
These statements are important in and of themselves, but they also tie in with the purpose of the Mater Foundation’s Fun Run event.
What is the RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run?
The RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run event takes place on Sunday 6th of March, consisting of a 5km walk/jog/run from South Bank, over the Story Bridge, and down into the Botanic Gardens. The event itself, and all additional fundraising activity, is in support of women with breast cancer.
Here at National Storage, we will be putting together a team of runners and volunteers, to participate in the event and to hand out icy poles (while also congratulating all participants, of course) in the Finisher’s Village.
Why do we sponsor this event?
Like countless people across Australia, many of our staff have been affected by breast cancer in some way or another. Whether through the experience of a family member or a friend, members of our team have seen how breast cancer can uproot people’s lives and take away much of what they hold dear.
Our sponsorship of the Mater Foundation, and the RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run event, is based upon doing what we can to minimise the impact of breast cancer on people’s lives and to provide funds for vital medical research.
What are we doing in 2022?
As previously mentioned, we will be putting together a team of runners and volunteers to participate in this year’s event. Our volunteers will be responsible for handing out icy poles in the Finisher’s Village. This has been hugely successful in previous years, with our team struggling to hand out the icy poles fast enough to keep up with the high demand.
National Storage is also hosting a Self-Donation Dollar Match Day on Thursday the 17th of February. This day encourages registered participants to donate to their own fundraising pages. In turn, we promise to match each donation, up to $250 per participant, to a total of $10,000.
Our participation on the day of the Fun Run, as well as our hosting of the Self-Donation Dollar Match Day comes in addition to our financial sponsorship of the event.
How can you get involved?
There are several ways you can get involved in the 2022 RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run. Here are some of your options:
- Participate: Sign yourself up for the fun run taking place on the 6th of March, and join the Sea of Pink as it journeys from South Bank to the Botanic Gardens.
- Fundraise: Once registered, you will be able to start fundraising for your walk, jog, or run. Simply direct people to your page where they can make donations.
- Donate: If you are not quite sure about signing up for the event, then you can still get involved in a very big way. By donating, you are providing the vital funds needed to conduct medical research and to provide support services to women living with breast cancer.
You can donate to our National Storage team here.
As a company that has made a commitment to giving back to the communities in which we operate, we are proud to take part in this event for another year. We can’t wait to feel the excitement and sense of community on the 6th of March, as well all step out in the morning to show our support for women living with breast cancer.
We will see you there!
